Security continues to be a services-rich opportunity for the channel,
and solution providers are optimistic that the market will continue
to grow.
While anti-malware, endpoint security and data-loss prevention rounded
out the top three security products fueling sales today, network security
assessments and security deployment and installation services were
the top security services bolstering sales, according to the 2009
Everything Channel State of Technology: Security study. Clearly, a
healthy IT security practice is not just about products that work
to protect customers; it's about high-margin presales consulting and
post-sale services too.
The sweet spot for security services opportunities is SMBs and midmarket
business customers. Nearly 60 percent of the channel's security revenue
comes from customers with 499 or fewer employees, according to the
study. Much of the services dollars arrive from helping small businesses
with little or no IT staff. In fact, only about one-third of small
businesses have dedicated IT staff, according to AMI Partners.
