Oracle Hits the SMB Target

Oracle and Ingram Micro lower barriers to entry for SMB-focused partners and their customers

Oracle's database solutions are renowned for their performance, reliability, security and scalability. And, unlike SQL Server, they’re open, running on Windows, Linux and UNIX. Unfortunately, the word on the street is that they're too expensive for small to midsize businesses (SMBs), and the partner program is too pricey.

Not anymore. In response to the needs of the partner community, Oracle and Ingram Micro have opened the door to solution providers and their customers with initiatives that are energizing sales to SMBs:

The right products at the right price: Oracle has introduced a range of SMB Technology Products priced and packaged for the SMB market. These include Standard Edition and Standard Edition One databases, application servers and business intelligence. Easy to install and manage, SMB Technology Products are priced at or below the competition. And because Oracle is the leading database and not overdistributed, margins are often higher.

The right partner program: Solution providers not currently engaged with Oracle can join the Oracle Remarketer Program, a new category of partner affiliated with VADs such as Ingram Micro. The program authorizes the resale of SMB Technology Products without contracts or fees, while providing an upgrade path for partners to later join the Oracle Partner Network (OPN).

The right business processes: Oracle has broadened access and simplified the buying process for partners with its Oracle 1-Click Ordering for SMB Technology Products. The new process reduces the average order-booking cycle, increases profitability for smaller transactions and streamlines SMB packaging.

"We are reaching out to the 'S' portion of SMBs with programs and processes that remove barriers to entry for our partners and their customers," says Judson Althoff, vice president of worldwide platform and distribution alliances at Oracle. "With these new enhancements, we're broadening access to a new base of SMB resellers and customers. We're making Oracle as easy a choice for resellers as Microsoft is on the low end, while providing more flexibility on the high end. The result is better solutions for our customers and more opportunities for our partners."
