INGRAM MICRO RECRUITS 26 VENDORS TO PARTICIPATE IN SYSTEM BUILDER SUMMIT

Ingram Micro Gives Resellers Inside Look at Frameworks Unbranded Offering

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 1, 1999

Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced that it has recruited 26 technology manufacturers to participate in the inaugural System Builder Summit, a roundtable forum that will bring together resellers that build their own systems and manufacturers, Feb. 1-4 in Scottsdale, Ariz. at The Phoenician Resort.

Frameworks, Total Integration Services (Ingram Micro's global integration offering that provides channel assembly, unbranded and configuration services to resellers) is a leading event sponsor. Ingram Micro has recruited 26 vendors to participate in the four-day event. The sponsors are: 3Com Corporation, Adaptec, Alps Electric, Antec, Computer Associates, Comtrol, Conexant, Corel, D-Link, Eiger Labs, Epson, Imation, KDS, Kensington, Key Tronic, Labtec, Logitech, Maxtor, Network Associates, Newcom, Novell, Seagate, Symantec, TDK Systems Inc., Tecmar and Viewsonic.

Douglas R. Antone, executive vice president, Ingram Micro and president, Frameworks, is a featured speaker at the event on Tuesday, Feb. 2. He will discuss trends in the white-box market, opportunities for resellers and Ingram Micro's unbranded product strategy. In addition, Mark Mahoney, vice president, sales, Frameworks, will present an overview of the Ingram Micro unbranded offering and sales strategies for resellers on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 3. Ingram Micro will display its unbranded systems and provide product, marketing and sales information to system builders during the White Box Marketplace trade show on Feb. 2 and 3.

"The role of resellers that build systems is evolving as end users continue to demand unbranded solutions. We are working hard to provide our reseller customers the services and options they need to remain competitive in this market. The high-quality, tested systems provided through the Frameworks unbranded offering allows resellers to spend less time in the back room and more time consulting with and servicing their end users," Antone said.

Frameworks Unbranded Offering

Unbranded systems are built to order at Ingram Micro's 488,000-square foot, ISO 9002-certified integration facility in Memphis. All systems are built to the resellers' specifications and are quality-tested before shipment. Ingram Micro offers the largest array of third-party components, which can be added to unbranded systems to provide custom solutions. In addition, Ingram Micro offers resellers desiring a higher degree of involvement in the integration process the option of overseeing major projects at the Memphis facility. While there, resellers interact with Frameworks technicians, have access to a private office and receive status reports on their end-users' orders.

Ingram Micro's Frameworks initiative also provides resellers custom-built, branded systems from Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and IBM.

The System Builder Summit is produced by Technology Event Management Company, Lake Oswego, Oregon. Participation by system builders is by invitation only. For event information visit Technology Events Management.
