INGRAM MICRO LAUNCHES RAPIDBANDProgram Leads the Way in Bandwidth ProvisioningSANTA ANA, Calif., March 3, 1999Ingram Micro Inc, the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced the launch of its rapidband program. The program is designed to allow Ingram Micro's entire reseller base the opportunity to price and provide a bandwidth solution for its end-user customer. rapidband allows competitive and incumbent local exchange carriers, regional Bell operating companies and long-distance companies the opportunity to make their network bandwidth services available through a single program to Ingram Micro's resellers. The program offers resellers an easy method to price and procure network bandwidth solutions and enhance their value proposition to the end-user customer. "We are very excited about rapidband. Until recently, bringing these two groups together was limited by the telecom carrier industry to selected resellers meeting strict technical and financial requirements. With the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) industry was created and enterprising companies can become a local telephone company," states Laura Skinner, vice president and general manager of the Telecom Integration Division at Ingram Micro. "We are pleased to be leading the industry during this transition." Ingram Micro is commencing a trial period with Rhythms, a nationwide provider of networking solutions for remote access to private networks and the Internet. Rhythms will offer Ingram Micro's resellers with a means to provide high-speed data access using digital subscriber line (DSL). Using the Rhythms solution, the resellers can provide their customers with an outsourced wide-area network (WAN) experience and a 24x7 network monitoring. rapidband is focused on resellers who want to capture additional incremental revenue through extending the customer relationship beyond LAN application to WAN.
