INGRAM MICRO U.S. DISTRIBUTION CENTERS RECOMMENDED FOR ISO 9002 CERTIFICATION

Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced that its seven U. S. distribution centers and the company's Santa Ana, Calif., and Buffalo, N.Y., operation centers have been recommended for ISO 9002 certification by KPMG Quality Registrar.

KPMG Quality Registrar, a business unit of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, audited Ingram Micro's processes and procedures for a period of nine days by visiting three of the company's seven distribution centers and its North American headquarters in October. The assessor observed the performance of 200 associates and questioned their understanding of Ingram Micro's quality policy.

"We are ecstatic that our distribution centers have been recommended for ISO 9002 certification," said Terry Tysseland, senior vice president of operations at Ingram Micro. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of more than 2,800 associates who participated in a series of extensive training classes, we were able to receive this recommendation in 14 months -- a process which on average takes 18-24 months to accomplish. The recommendation means that Ingram Micro has a quality system in place that meets the ISO 9002 requirements, and it ensures that the work we do is standardized and that the output is high quality while we continue to improve our processes."

KPMG will conduct a surveillance audit every six months by visiting two of Ingram Micro's distribution centers and the corporate office to verify that the quality system is in compliance with the Q9002 -- 1994 standards. The company has designated quality managers and document control coordinators at each distribution center to maintain the quality system and the ISO certification requirements.

In addition to this recommendation, Ingram Micro has already received ISO 9002 certification for its customer service, configuration, returns operation and consolidation center.
