OPENING OF 600,000-SQUARE-FOOT DISTRIBUTION CENTER
New Millington, Tennessee, Distribution
Center Features The Latest Technological Advances

Ingram Micro Inc., the world's leading wholesale
distributor of technology products and services,
announced today it is celebrating the grand opening
of its new 600,000-square-foot distribution center
located in Millington, Tenn., which is north of
Memphis. More than 200 associates, dignitaries and
Ingram Micro executives will be attending the event
on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
"This is a very exciting day for all of us at
Ingram Micro," said Jerre L. Stead, chairman and
CEO of Ingram Micro. "Our expansion efforts in
Tennessee have been greatly supported and enhanced
by the long-term commitment of the State of
Tennessee, Shelby County and the Town of
Millington."
Millington Facts and
Figures
Aside from its size -- 600,000 square
feet, built on 110 acres, with up to three levels
of operations in each building -- the warehouse has
89 dock doors for easy loading and unloading of
products. The facility also boasts 18,000 pallet
locations and up to 26,000 bins which currently
store more than 15,000 stock keeping units (SKUs).
In addition, more than seven miles of conveyor
belts, which can be operated from 90 to 540 feet
per minute, ensure a fast and smooth shipping
operation.
By early 1998, the Millington distribution
center is expected to be fully staffed and employ
700 associates -- up from 440 currently. Ingram
Micro has been operating in Tennessee since June
1995 when it opened its first 158,000 square-foot
distribution center in Memphis. This latest
expansion in Millington is the company's largest
facility in the world.
