INGRAM MICRO TO ACQUIRE LEADING SOUTH AMERICAN DISTRIBUTOR
Acquisition Of Computek Expands Ingram Micro's Reach Into Three New Strategic Markets, Including Brazil, Chile And Peru

SANTA ANA, Calif., and SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct. 15, 1997
Ingram Micro Inc. announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement with Empresas Quintec S.A. to acquire the leading Chilean computer products distributor, Computacion Tecnica, S.A. (Computek) and its affiliated companies, including Systems & Solutions Informatica Ltda., based in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Computek Enterprises (U.S.A.) Inc., based in Miami, Florida; and Computacion Tecnica Peruana S.A. located in Lima, Peru. The terms and conditions of the agreement were not disclosed.

Through this acquisition, Ingram Micro will gain access to five distribution centers, two of which are located in Brazil, and one each in Chile, Peru and Miami. Computek distributes products from leading U.S. manufacturers throughout South America, including Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft and Novell.

David W. Rutledge, president of Ingram Micro Latin America, said, "We are very excited about this agreement which establishes Ingram Micro's commitment to key South American markets, and solidly positions us for rapid growth in the region. In addition, it will make Ingram Micro the second largest Pan Latin-American distributor.

He continued, "Computek is a very well-established enterprise with an excellent reputation and a solid network of key vendor relationships throughout South America. Furthermore, this acquisition will help us better serve our global customers and supplier partners throughout South America, and we look forward to welcoming the more than 170 Computek associates to the Ingram Micro team."

The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 1997. Computek's current management will continue to manage their respective business units throughout South America.
