INGRAM MICRO JOINS HP'S
EXPANDED SOLUTIONS PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
HP Teams Up With Ingram Micro To Offer Lower
Prices,
Greater Product Availability And Faster
Delivery
SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 9, 1997
Ingram Micro Inc., the world's leading wholesale
distributor of technology products and services,
announced today that HP has named it one of its key
channel partners to manufacture and distribute HP's
family of PC products.
HP's Extended Solutions Partnership (ESP) is the
latest capability added to Ingram Micro's
Frameworks, Total Integration Services offering.
Beginning in the fourth quarter, Ingram Micro will
start assembly of select models of HP's Vectra
commercial PC line and the new HP Brio PC line for
small businesses, at its ISO 9002-certified
configuration center in Fullerton, Calif.
"The ESP program signifies that HP is creating
flexible, cost-efficient solutions to meet the
increasingly complex and varied customer
requirements which characterize the market today,"
said John Winkelhaus, Ingram Micro's executive vice
president of global channel assembly. "The program
will benefit virtually all of HP's commercial PC
customers -- large corporate accounts, medium-sized
business, departmental corporate customers and
small businesses. In addition, it will
significantly reduce inventory holding costs both
in the channel and at HP."
Jacques Clay, vice president in charge of HP's
worldwide commercial PC operation, said, "The ESP
program is an important milestone on a path that
will fundamentally change the way our PC products
are manufactured, marketed and distributed in the
years ahead."
In its initial deployment phase, HP will begin
manufacturing PCs based on channel orders rather
than forecasts. Ingram Micro will assemble,
customize and distribute HP PC models from HP
components supplied to the reseller. By early 1998,
HP is expected to also make available HP NetServer
network servers and its Kayak line of performance
PCs through the new distribution program.
About Ingram Micro's
Frameworks, Total Integration Services
Frameworks, Total Integration Services is Ingram
Micro's worldwide channel assembly and
configuration initiative designed to benefit
resellers and manufacturers. Resellers can order
complete, configured custom solutions, or they can
order OEM components a la carte. Frameworks is
beneficial to manufacturers because it reduces
inventory overhead.
Frameworks currently offers six main services,
including AcerOpen, Custom Configuration,
Manufacturer-Authorized Channel Assembly like IBM's
Authorized Assembler Program (AAP), OEM Components,
Unbranded Systems Configuration, and UNIX
Configuration for Hewlett-Packard and Sun
Microsystems servers and workstations.
Frameworks technicians are certified in the most
advanced platforms and operating systems, such as
Acer, Apple, CompTIA A+, Hewlett-Packard, IBM,
Microsoft, Novell and Sun Microsystems. To ensure
Frameworks systems meet performance expectations,
they undergo stringent quality-testing at Ingram
Laboratories, one of the industry's leading testing
facilities.
Frameworks services take place at Ingram Micro's
worldwide network of ISO 9002-certified
configuration centers, including Santa Ana, Calif.;
Chicago; Denver, Colo.; Memphis, Tenn.; Denmark;
Germany; Sweden; the United Kingdom; and the
Netherlands. A configuration center in Canada is
also part of the Frameworks network.
