INGRAM MICRO ANNOUNCES NEW
Frameworks, Total Integration Services
CONFIGURATION FACILITY FOR HIGH-END UNIX
PRODUCTS
Distributor configures UNIX workstations and
servers at ISO-9002 facility
SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 6, 1997
Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM),
the world's leading wholesale distributor of
technology products and services, announced today
that it has opened a new facility to test,
configure and ship Hewlett-Packard Company and Sun
Microsystems UNIX workstations and servers. The
UNIX configuration service is part of Ingram
Micro's recently announced Frameworks, Total
Integration Services offering.
UNIX configuration will take place at Ingram
Micro's Fullerton, Calif. Configuration Center,
which boasts 21,000 square feet of
climate-controlled manufacturing space.
According to Mary Galvin, vice president of VAR
Sales for Ingram Micro: "The addition of the UNIX
capability to our Fullerton Configuration Center
will greatly enhance our ability to continue to
exceed our customers' expectations for complete,
high-quality UNIX solutions. We anticipate
continued growth in channel sales of high-end
workstations and servers and the new facility
enables our technicians to provide the very best
service for our customers."
The state-of-the-art UNIX configuration facility
includes:
- HP- and
Sun-certified technicians
- Electrostatic
discharge dissipative flooring, which
is designed to eliminate the possibility of
equipment damage during configuration
- Real-time
order-status tracking to document
each unit as it enters and leaves the facility
- High-speed software
configuration equipment to customize
each order with customer-requested software
- Room for growth and
expansion
Ingram Micro configures, ships and supports
Sun's complete line of products for Sun-authorized
resellers. The company provides the same services
for HP 9000 enterprise servers and workstations for
HP-authorized resellers. Ingram Micro continues to
expand its presence in the high-end market for such
equipment by providing Sun- and HP-dedicated sales
representatives, marketing, asset management and
integration services.
According to Sharon Blender, director, U.S.
master reseller channel, Sun Microsystems Computer
Company, "Ingram Micro has taken significant steps
to provide flexible and responsive integration
services -- this is very valuable to Sun resellers.
We anticipate that Ingram Micro's value-added
approach to the UNIX market will benefit the
authorized resellers Sun works with in the
channel."
Said Harper Thorpe, HP's distribution sales
manager for the Americas, "Ingram Micro's new UNIX
configuration facility represents the type of high
value HP seeks from its business partners. As the
leading UNIX vendor, we are looking forward to
working with Ingram Micro as we continue to grow
the opportunities we see in the market for HP 9000
resellers."

including: AcerOpen; Custom Configuration;
Manufacturer-Authorized Channel Assembly such as
IBM's Authorized Assembler Program (AAP); OEM

UNIX Configuration for HP and Sun Microsystems
servers and workstations.
Frameworks technicians are certified in the most
advanced platforms and operating systems, such as
Acer, Apple, CompTIA A+, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Novell
and Sun Microsystems. To ensure Frameworks systems
meet performance expectations, they undergo
stringent quality-testing at Ingram Laboratories,
one of the industry's leading testing facilities.
Frameworks services take place at Ingram Micro's
worldwide network of ISO 9002-certified
configuration centers, including Santa Ana, Calif.;
Chicago; Denver; Memphis, Tenn.; Copenhagen,
