INGRAM MICRO NAMES PRESIDENT OF ASIA-PACIFIC Former Mitel Executive To Lead The Company's Asian Expansion EffortsSANTA ANA, Calif., and SINGAPORE, July 30,
1997 "We are very excited that Greg has joined our team in Asia-Pacific," said David R. Dukes, vice chairman of Ingram Micro Inc. and chief executive officer of Ingram Alliance. "He is truly a global executive who has worked and lived in the U.K. and Hong Kong. In addition, he has succeeded in managing complex and large-scale operations throughout the world, including Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. He will be a critical asset to our success in Asia." Jeff Rodek, worldwide president and chief operating officer, added, "Greg's appointment is critical as we're strengthening and expanding our executive team throughout the world. Greg, a Canadian citizen, brings to this position more than 18 years of broad-ranging experience in global operations and management, including growth and acquisitions -- all of which will be valuable as we move forward in our strategic plans for Asia-Pacific." Most recently Spierkel worked for Canada-based Mitel Corporation, a multinational manufacturer of leading PBX, software and semiconductor products. During his 11-year tenure with the company, he served in a variety of executive management positions, including the past year as vice president of global sales and marketing for Mitel Corp. Said Spierkel, "I'm truly excited to be joining Ingram Micro. The company's strong global information systems, and its initiatives and leadership role in channel assembly as well as other industry-leading programs, will be exciting to implement throughout Asia." From 1992 to 1996, he served as president of Mitel Inc. North America. Prior to that, Spierkel was based in the U.K. where he served as managing director of Mitel Telecom, with responsibilities over Europe and Asia. From 1989 to 1990, he was general manager of Mitel Far East Ltd. based in Hong Kong, where he was instrumental in the successful integration of a newly acquired subsidiary. Before that, he was assistant vice president of supply management in Canada. Spierkel began his career with Mitel in 1986 as assistant vice president of business planning. From 1984 to 1986, Spierkel worked for Canada-based Northern Telecom as a manager of market research, and he launched his career at Bell Canada Inc. where he last served as national account manager from 1979 to 1984. In addition to his extensive global business experience, Spierkel currently serves as vice chairman of the Multimedia Telecommunications Association (MMTA). Spierkel holds a master's degree in business administration from Georgetown University, Washington D.C., and a bachelor's degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
