INGRAM MICRO ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE REALIGNMENTWinkelhaus to take lead in key channel assembly initiativeSANTA ANA, Calif., May 7, 1998Ingram Micro Inc. today announced that John William Winkelhaus, II has been named executive vice president, global channel assembly for the company, and Philip D. Ellett has been promoted to president, Ingram Micro Europe. Effective immediately, Winkelhaus will return to the U.S. to lead Ingram Micro's key global channel assembly initiative. "One of Ingram Micro's top strategic initiatives is channel assembly," said Jeffrey R. Rodek, president and worldwide chief operating officer of Ingram Micro. "We are very well positioned with our current capabilities in configuration, OEM and systems experience. John's expertise and leadership in the global market will be key in developing a rich channel assembly program for our reseller and vendor partners worldwide." Winkelhaus' charter is to define the approach for build-to-order (BTO), assembly and configuration, and to establish strategic partnerships to eliminate redundant costs, shorten time-to-market and improve fill-rates. As a first step in this initiative, the company became the first distributor to receive IBM's Authorized Assembler Program (AAP) certification. Since 1992, Winkelhaus has served in Brussels as senior vice president, then executive vice president of Ingram Micro Inc., with the last 16 months as president of Ingram Micro Europe. During this time, Winkelhaus successfully developed a European business which exceeded $2.6 billion in sales for 1996, was voted European Executive of the Year at IBM's EuroChannels 1995 conference, and led Ingram Micro to be recognized by IBM as the 1996 Pan-European Distributor of the Year. Winkelhaus was a member of Ingram Micro's predecessor company, Micro D, before a 1989 merger with Ingram Computer Inc., and has served in various executive positions with the company since that time, including senior vice president of sales from 1989 through 1991. He will be succeeded by Phil Ellett, who joined Ingram Micro in 1996. For the past four months, Ellett has served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Ingram Micro Europe, with responsibility for 10 European operation centers. Rodek added, "With more than 20 years of industry experience, Phil is highly-qualified and well prepared to assume the leadership role for Ingram Micro's European expansion and new business development. " Ellett joined Ingram Micro in January 1996 from South Carolina-based Gates F.A., where he served as president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was vice president of global sales for Iomega Corp. The company also announced that for medical reasons, Larry L.
