INGRAM MICRO CONFIGURATION CENTERS RECEIVE ISO 9002 CERTIFICATIONSANTA ANA, Calif. and CHICAGO, Ill., Oct. 28,
1996 "This is a very significant accomplishment for Ingram Micro. It demonstrates once again our commitment to quality and customer service," said Jerre L. Stead, chairman and chief executive officer of Ingram Micro. Ingram Micro's quality system applies to the assembly of custom configurations of computer systems and related products at its two U.S. configuration centers, located in Santa Ana, Calif. and Buffalo Grove, Ill. The system was assessed under the Q9002 (ISO 9002: 1994) standards, a globally recognized quality standard system established by the International Organization for Standardization in Geneva, Switzerland and adopted by over 90 countries worldwide. To become ISO certified, Ingram Micro provided configuration center associates valuable tools &emdash; policies, procedures, work instructions and records &emdash; to regulate work processes. These tools and processes are audited on a regular basis by internal auditors who have received special ISO training and certification. ISO certification is becoming more important in the computer distribution business, according to Bob Furtado, senior vice president of Ingram Micro operations. "More and more distribution customers are demanding that distributors are ISO certified. To the customer, it represents a commitment to quality. And that is important to us," he said. "That's why we have invested the time, energy and resources to assure we have a quality control system in place that would meet ISO standards. We are pleased to receive ISO certification for our configuration centers." Ingram Micro's procedures were designed to conform to ISO standards. KPMG Quality Registrar (a business unit of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP), was assigned to audit Ingram Micro's processes and recommended the configuration centers for certification. KPMG, which is accredited by the Registrar Accreditation Board, approved the certificate of registration. Ingram Micro Inc., headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif., is the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services, with 1995 sales of $8.617 billion. Worldwide sales for the first two quarters of 1996 total $5.543 billion. The company operates in 19 countries and distributes more than 36,000 products to over 100,000 resellers in 120 countries. |
