INGRAM MICRO SIGNS DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH OR TECHNOLOGY

SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 7, 1996
Ingram Micro Inc. announced today it has signed an agreement with OR Technology Inc. to distribute the a:drive™, a 120MB floppy disk drive which uses laser servo technology. Ingram Micro will make available the a:drive to its broad customer base of systems integrators, value-added dealers and resellers starting today.

According to Jenny Ayala, Ingram Micro's senior director of purchasing: "We are excited about this agreement because the a:drive offers greater storage capacity as well as faster access to data stored on floppy disks. This agreement will provide OR Technology with a solid distribution network to handle anticipated demand, while allowing Ingram Micro to add yet another emerging technology to our extensive list of products."

Said John Haughey, president and CEO, OR Technology: "This agreement will allow us to effectively reach the millions of current floppy disk drive users who need the opportunity to dramatically increase storage capacity yet still have access to the billions of floppy disks they already own. Given the potential of the product, a solid distribution system able to handle anticipated demand was a primary concern and the major reason we chose Ingram Micro."

The a:drive is an LS-120 floppy disk drive which can store up to 120MB of data using LS-120 media while still being able to read and write legacy (720MB and 1.44MB) floppy diskettes. Compared with drives that offer similar storage capacity, the a:drive offers form factors established for floppy disk drives, a design optimized for internal use and transfer rates of up to 4MB/sec. The a:drive has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $210.

Laser servo technology was developed by OR Technology, Compaq Computer Corporation, Imation Corp. (3M) and Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries, Ltd. (MKE).

OR Technology, with headquarters in Campbell, Calif., sells, designs and manufacturers data storage products using laser servo technology for which it holds significant patents. OR Technology markets the a:drive, a product compatible with current floppy diskettes that stores up to 120MB of data on a single diskette.

Ingram Micro Inc., headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif., is the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services, with 1995 sales of $8.617 billion. Worldwide sales for the first two quarters of 1996 total $5.543 billion. The company operates in 19 countries and distributes more than 36,000 products to over 100,000 resellers in 120 countries.

The a:drive is a trademark of OR Technology Inc.
