INGRAM MICRO'S TELECOM INTEGRATION DIVISION SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH MITEL INC.

SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 2, 1996
Ingram Micro Inc. announced today it has signed a letter of intent with Mitel Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canada-based Mitel Corporation, to distribute its computer telephony integration (CTI) hardware and software products throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Terms and conditions of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We are very excited that Mitel will join Ingram Micro's fast-growing network of CTI product providers," said Laura Skinner, vice president and general manager of Ingram Micro's Telecom Integration Division. "Mitel's top-of-the-line CTI products will complement Ingram Micro's extensive data products offering by providing our value-added resellers (VARs) with additional voice and telephony integration products."

Skinner added that "given the continued convergence of the voice and data markets, the alliance between the two companies is a natural fit to provide Ingram Micro's computing and telecom VARs access to Mitel's industry-leading CTI product portfolio."

Greg Spierkel, president of Mitel, Inc., commented: "We are very pleased at the opportunity to provide Mitel's industry-leading CTI products through Ingram Micro's vast global customer base, which numbers in excess of 100,000 resellers worldwide. This liaison represents a major incremental business opportunity for both companies."

Ingram Micro will provide Mitel's existing dealer network with access to its training and certification programs to further their data expertise. In addition, Ingram Micro will offer engineering support services such as configuration centers, network consulting and implementation, as well as dealer financing, inventory floor planning, and leasing services.

Mitel Corporation designs, manufactures and markets systems, sub-systems and microelectronic components for sale to world markets in the telephony, computer telephony integration and communications industries. The company's products include voice communications systems; public switching systems; network enhancement and gateway products; CTI systems and applications; client server telecom products; custom silicon wafers, integrated and hybrid circuits, and optoelectronic devices. Mitel's leadership strategy is centered on advancing people-to-people communications in an open, distributed and standards-based environment.

Ingram Micro Inc., headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif., is the world's largest wholesale distributor of microcomputer and technology products, with 1995 sales of $8.617 billion. The company's inventory includes 36,000 products from more than 1,100 of the world's leading hardware and software companies.
