INGRAM MICRO LAUNCHES TELECOM INTEGRATION DIVISIONCompany Hires Former Sprint Executive to Head Up New Division SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 15, 1996 "Today's announcement indicates a significant new initiative for Ingram Micro as we're looking to expand into one of the fastest growing segments in the digital communications industry," said Greg Hawkins, Ingram Micro's senior vice president of sales. "Ingram Micro intends to provide the latest products and related distributor services to existing as well as new value-added resellers (VARs) who sell both computer as well as telephony equipment." Hawkins added, "We are also very excited that Laura has joined our team. Her strong telecommunications background, coupled with her business acumen, will add tremendous value to our new organization as we are moving forward to the next level." Commenting on her decision to join Ingram Micro, Skinner said, "Ingram Micro is the first wholesale distributor with a vision to pursue an aggressive CTI strategy for the VAR and Telecom channel. CTI has the potential of becoming a very strong growth strategy for any company that properly establishes itself in this fast-paced industry segment. An independent research study conducted by Dataquest predicts that the total CTI product revenues will exceed $7 billion by 1999." Skinner will be responsible for creating channel strategies for the new division, including developing relationships with new customers and vendors who deal in the voice, data and video communications industry. She will be based in Santa Ana, Calif., and report to Greg Hawkins. Skinner brings to the position more than 18 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. For the past 12 years, she worked for Sprint North Supply, where she last served as director of sales and marketing for Sprint Products Group in Kansas City, Kansas. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the MultiMedia Telecommunications Association and is vice-chairman of the Voice/MultiMedia Division. In 1993, she was honored by Teleconnect magazine as "Telecom Person of the Year." The following year, she received the President's Distinguished Service Award from NATA (North American Telecommunications Association). Skinner recently earned a masters of business administration degree from the Executive Fellows Program of Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo.
