Michael J. Grainger serves as president and chief operating officer for Ingram Micro Inc. In this role, he provides overall direction for Ingram Micro's global operations to implement strategies, drive best practices and support profitable growth throughout the company. The company's four regional presidents report to Grainger, who reports to Kent Foster, chairman and chief executive officer of Ingram Micro. Grainger previously served as Ingram Micro's chief financial officer (CFO) from October 1996 to January 2001. He led the company through its initial public offering (IPO) and helped facilitate the company's global expansion to extend its lead as the world's largest information technology (IT) distribution company. As CFO, he was primarily responsible for acquisitions, treasury, strategic planning, accounting and control, investor relations, internal audit and risk management. He was appointed to the position on an interim basis in May of 1996 and named CFO in October 1996. From 1990 to 1996, Grainger served as vice president and controller for Ingram Micro's former parent company, Ingram Industries Inc., with financial oversight responsibilities for Ingram Micro and other business units owned by the company. Prior to Ingram Industries, Grainger spent a year with Sullivan Graphics as CFO of the company's book group. This position followed his six-year stint as CFO for Coble Systems, a common carrier and truck leasing company. After orchestrating the sale of Coble Systems in 1986, Grainger continued as a mergers and acquisitions consultant until 1989. He began his 27-year career as a certified public accountant, working with Price Waterhouse from 1973 to 1980. Grainger graduated in 1973 with a bachelor of science from the University of Montevallo in Alabama.
