Ingram Micro To Offer SAIC Professional Services To Support Ciscos New Telephony Platform

Ingram Micro teams with global systems integrator to help technology solution providers deliver integrated telephony services

SANTA ANA, Calif. Nov. 20, 2000

Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM), the largest global wholesale provider of technology products and services, today announced it will offer professional services from Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), a leading international research and information technology firm, to help technology solution providers support Cisco Systems Inc.s first Internet protocol (IP) telephony platform.

This strategic relationship allows access to SAICs extensive certified professionals to enable solution providers to deliver solutions utilizing Ciscos AVVID platform, or Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data. AVVID provides an enterprise architecture that integrates voice, video and data over a common IP transport in a complete solution. It is important that information technology (IT) professionals are able to deploy networks with capabilities for converged architecture as enterprises are continuously challenged to accommodate data, voice and video traffic on their computer networking infrastructures.

Our customers must look at the convergence of voice and data to be more competitive in delivering technology solutions in todays marketplace, said Kevin Murai, president, Ingram Micro U.S. Ingram Micro has been a leader in bringing convergence information and technology to the channel. By teaming with SAIC to introduce professional services in this area, we enable our customers to quickly offer leading-edge solutions and take advantage of the opportunities of convergence technologies.

This relationship demonstrates Ingram Micros commitment to offer technology solutions that complement the dynamics of a market moving toward the integration of diverse technologies. Toward this endeavor, Ingram Micro has formed the Emerging Technologies Group, which encompasses its Converging Technologies Group, Enterprise Solutions Group and Application Service Provider initiative under one division. The Emerging Technologies Group will focus on bringing together services and solutions, such as SAIC professional services, to help customers meet the challenges and profit from the opportunities presented in a digital economy.

Ingram Micro selected SAIC to support this initiative because of the companys demonstrated expertise in the AVVID architecture and its ability to serve the needs of Ingram Micros customers. We are pleased to support Ingram Micros customers and broaden their service capabilities, said Bob Young, Executive Senior VP, Telecommunications Division, SAIC. SAIC has played an integral role in developing AVVID design principals and lessons learned based on actual Internet telephony deployment for Cisco.

Similar to its other channel endeavors with Cisco, Ingram Micro will assist the networking leader in reaching technology solution providers interested in expanding profit margins and increasing opportunities with IP solutions for voice, video and data.

Partner-to-partner collaboration such as this is one key to providing a complete solution to our customers, said Tushar Kothari, vice president of Channels at Cisco Systems. Partnership between Ingram Micro and SAIC leverages their individual core competencies and provides the products and the necessary professional services to enable resellers to offer complete solution based on Ciscos AVVID platform.

Ingram Micro will offer SAIC professional services during a phased regional rollout. For more information, solution providers may call 1-800-456-8000, extension 67191, or e-mail AVVIDsolutions.
