INGRAM MICRO STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION AS FULFILLMENT ENGINE TO THE INTERNET WITH BACK-ROOM SERVICE FOR buy.com
Leading Internet Retailer Endorses Ingram Micro Service Levels
With U.S. Contract Renewal
SANTA ANA, Calif., March 9, 2000
Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM), the world's largest wholesale provider of technology products and services, today announced
its order management, logistics and delivery performance for buy.com (NASDAQ: BUYX) has led to renewal of its contract for back-room fulfillment services with this leading Internet retailer.
Ingram Micro handles virtually all of the orders placed with buy.com for computers and computer-related products. The company provides warehousing and fulfillment services to keep pace with buy.coms order volume for computer-related products, which grew nearly five-fold in 1999.
We are pleased to continue a successful partnership with Ingram Micro, and we value its capabilities as our outsourced fulfillment partner in the United States, said Greg Hawkins, chief executive officer, buy.com. The customers experience with buy.com is critical to the success of our business, and with Ingram Micro our customers have received timely and accurate delivery of the computer products they purchased online. Ingram Micros performance has been a significant component of our success.
While many Internet retailers are working to establish successful order fulfillment systems, Ingram Micro can offer its Internet partners 99 percent accuracy for shipment of stocked products within 24 hours of the end users purchase on their Web sites. As part of its fulfillment services for Internet companies, Ingram Micro deploys a direct e-commerce connection for real-time order management. This seamless communication enables immediate access to Ingram Micro distribution centers, providing a proven and reliable resource for order fulfillment and delivery, thereby accelerating the fulfillment process.
As the back-room for Internet companies such as buy.com, we believe that our logistical expertise can provide a fulfillment engine that delivers greater than 99 percent accuracy to support the clicks to online businesses, said Kevin Murai, president, Ingram Micro U.S. Our business hinges on providing a solid record of accuracy and speed for orders to enable all of our Internet partners to satisfy their customers. We are pleased to continue our relationship with a leading Internet retailer such as buy.com and look forward to continued success on their behalf.
