INGRAM MICRO TAKES ITS FIRST "DANCE" WITH COMPUSA FOR ECONCERT READINESS DAY

As A Founder Of RosettaNet, Ingram Micro Continues To Lead E-business Evolution In The Technology Industry With First PIP Deployment

Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM), the world's largest wholesale provider of technology products and services, marked its celebration of RosettaNet eConcert Readiness Day in an electronic dance with leading computer products retailer and reseller CompUSA Inc. (NYSE: CPU), America's Largest Computer Superstore(R). A founding member and leader in the establishment of RosettaNet as the information technology industry's standard language for e-business processes, Ingram Micro has deployed its first RosettaNet Partner Interface Process (PIP) with CompUSA.

Known as a "dance," this e-business interaction, or PIP, between Ingram Micro and CompUSA marks the first step toward implementing a completely standard framework that will allow companies in the information technology (IT) industry to communicate and conduct business via the Internet. In total, RosettaNet offers more than 100 PIPs for various business processes. This first PIP deployment between the two companies will allow them to exchange communication electronically about product price and availability.

The PIP exchange between Ingram Micro and CompUSA will allow a more efficient flow of information between the two companies, significantly speeding up business processes. In addition, inventory information will be exchanged by linking internal inventory management systems. By communicating through the PIP, Ingram Micro and CompUSA will enjoy increased efficiencies, speedier responses and updates to product inventory levels and price changes, as well as elimination of the need for custom systems development for each OEM's product. The two companies worked in tandem over the past several months to develop the PIP from the concept stage through BETA testing.

Ingram Micro has been an integral driver of RosettaNet standards development. The company originated the idea for RosettaNet, when in 1998, it loaned two of its executives to head the RosettaNet consortium. The goal was to gain consensus from technology industry leaders to establish and eventually implement the PIP electronic-interface standards language and set the foundation for a standards-based environment for conducting business electronically. The process moved into the next phase with last week's launch of Viacore, the first RosettaNet-based business-to-business e-commerce hub. Ingram Micro executives continue to play active roles on the RosettaNet and Viacore boards, as well as the eConcert implementation task force.
