INGRAM MICRO FORMS GLOBAL PARTNER SERVICES GROUPAlso taps executive dedicated to providing logistics for Microsoft retail outsourcing SANTA ANA , Calif., Nov. 15, 1999Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM), the world's largest wholesale provider of technology products and services, today declared its commitment to technology manufacturers through the formation of Global Partner Services. Through this division, manufacturers can increase their profitability by outsourcing standard business functions to Ingram Micro, such as product fulfillment, asset management and configuration services. Ingram Micro five-year veteran Michael Terrell, 47, now serves as the senior vice president and general manager of Global Partner Services. He is responsible for providing manufacturers with a host of outsourced services, including logistics, configuration, assembly and electronic commerce. "Manufacturers and distribution partners perform many of the same services," Terrell said. "Ingram Micro Global Partner Services can help eliminate duplication and inefficiencies by leveraging the core competencies of Ingram Micro. By forming strategic alliances with us, vendors can drive down operational costs and enhance customer service." In conjunction, the company appointed Scott Michaelis, senior director of Global Partner Services, to the newly created position of general manager for Microsoft's direct retailer distribution and support program. Michaelis, 37, joined Ingram Micro in 1995 and has held several senior-level sales positions. In March, Microsoft named Ingram Micro as the outsourcing partner for its Home and Retail Division's channel program that serves a number of retailers. Ingram Micro also will work with Microsoft to develop additional programs and services to better serve retailers. "The Home and Retail Division's channel program is an exciting new business strategy for Ingram Micro," Michaelis said. "Through Global Partner Services, Microsoft will be able to leverage our infrastructure, customer service, distribution and supply-chain management expertise, as well as our continued strong relationships with retailers in this channel." In addition to securing this contract with Microsoft, Ingram Micro Global Partner Services also has been tapped to afford outsourced services for other global technology vendors -- most of these contracts fall under nondisclosure -- and will continue to seek other opportunities to strike strategic partnerships for global outsourced services.
