INGRAM MICRO ADVANCES BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS E-COMMERCE THROUGH ENHANCED WEB SITE

SANTA ANA , Calif., Sept. 20, 1999

Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest wholesale provider of technology products and services, today delivered on its promise to make its corporate Web site a prominent business-to-business tool for the technology solutions industry by launching the second round of enhancements to the site in less than 100 days. In addition to expanded search and order capabilities, the new site, located at www.ingrammicro.com, offers all-day ordering capabilities, a customizable quote tool and an online PC configurator.

"Ingram Micro is committed to giving our reseller customers the information and resources they need to provide outstanding customer service," said Guy Abramo, senior vice president, worldwide marketing and eSolutions for Ingram Micro. "As part of this effort, we redesigned the site to adhere to traditional Web commerce standards. The new site is more intuitive, easier to search and navigate, and we will continue to listen to our customer feedback to make it even better."

Ingram Micro teamed its eSolutions Group, the company's Internet-focused division that integrates internal marketing and IT talent, with the High Tech Consulting Group of KPMG to develop the latest version of the site. The team conducted usability studies with customers to find out how they were working on the site and what they thought would improve its functionality.

"We took the information we gathered through our research and broke our implementation into two stages," said Richard J. Kish, Ingram Micro's chief information officer who heads up the IT side of the eSolutions Group. "The first release focused mainly on rebuilding our site infrastructure to provide scalability that would grow with our business. We wanted the second launch to focus on functionality."

The new commerce exchange hub will offer some new experiences for site visitors. A price quote-generation tool was created to help resellers build customizable quotes for their customers. Once completed, the quote can be e-mailed directly from Ingram Micro's Web site to an end-user customer. The e-mail is delivered by the reseller with Ingram Micro being a transparent entity in the transaction.

An online system configurator also is available to Ingram Micro customers to provide easy access to channel assembly, reconfigured systems and Everest Series systems, Ingram Micro's branded personal computer line. Once a PC has been defined, the configuration specs are seamlessly routed through the company's channel assembly systems for generation.

Customers may now apply online for credit, lease options and purchase order financing. The Web forms help shorten turnaround time as compared to the traditional application process. Prior to the government and education pricing availability feature, resellers catering to this market had to get discounted rates from each individual vendor. The new government and education pricing feature allows resellers to access local, state and federal-specific rates for various manufacturers at a glance.

In addition to the current upgrades, Ingram Micro has an electronic customer service team working daily on customer satisfaction issues. In response to customer requests, the next site addition will focus on accelerating the speed of the site. By the end of 1999, Ingram Micro will add several new servers to the company's Internet infrastructure to accommodate its East Coast customer base.
